First Contact: The Online Recording Studio (TORS)

THE BASS PLAYER IN THE BAND

As a former bass player in bands, I found myself in recording studios from time to time. It was so much fun, but I was always playing someone else’s music. I was always quite removed from the organisation of the sessions - I literally just played the bass and left everything else to the lead vocalist / songwriter and the producer while I chatted with the guitarist and drummer! My last involvement was when I moved to Ireland and since then, the drummer has upped sticks to Canada, the guitarist plays with another band and the lead vocalist / songwriter has disappeared into his own ego never to be heard of again. The producer, who was an old guy at the time, has passed away and I’ve lost all contact with any other musicians I once knew. It’s been over a decade since I was the bass player in the band and in that time, a LOT has changed.

GAME CHANGER

While chilling out and watching some HTWS YouTube tutorials, I came across this one: Getting Your Demo Professionally Produced and Ready for Release. What an absolutely brilliant idea! I wondered how they might be able to help me ….

THE ONLINE RECORDING STUDIO

I reached out to The Online Recording Studio (TORS) via their website and set up a meeting with Joe Wadsworth, the Founder / CEO. I sent links to a number of demos I had uploaded to Soundcloud (since removed) and we spoke about our own backgrounds and experience in music, my aspirations, how the process works and then we got talking about the two tracks I want TORS to produce for me and how exactly they can help. He gave me an estimate of costs and as soon as I paid up, he started organizing a producer and a vocalist (I don’t feel I’m a good enough singer to do the songs justice in all honesty). If I’m going to take this seriously, I need to get the finished tracks in their best possible state.

JANUARY FEBRUARY I DON’T UNDERSTAND … YET

Joe suggested that the process should be 3-4 weeks so by early February at the latest, I’m expecting my first two professionally recorded tracks. Both songs are output from the HTWS workshops: Say What you Want to Say was from the first workshop, and, To Kill or Die For from the second.

I’m meeting my producer in the next week to move forward. 2025 is going to be exciting!
