A BRIEF HISTORY

After a decade plus, Cath decided to return to music after a diversion into landscape photography. No longer interested in performing (too many hours spent on stage with a bass guitar slung around her shoulders which led to a lot of backache!), she is now focused on developing her songwriting and creating a catalog of tracks. 

Originally from Wales, she has moved between Spain, the Cayman Islands and is currently based in Ireland. She learned classical piano as a child, took up the cello but saw an opportunity to play the double bass and grabbed that literally with both hands. She has played in various orchestras and has taught herself guitar; managing to plateau consistently at ‘bang average’ for many years.

Named after the mythical cat of Arthurian legend, the Chapalu Project draws from landscape, distance, memory, and the emotional weight carried by small but defining moments. The music blends intimate songwriting with textured, cinematic production shaped by coastal stillness, analogue warmth, and nocturnal atmosphere. 

This project is geared towards sync and placements. 

Influences

Mostly, atmospheric indie pop, alt rock, 1960s flower power classics, 1970s soft & rock, 1980s synth / new wave, Brit pop & ‘cool Cymru’, trip hop, soul as well as cinematic composition, classical, jazz, American songbook classics and orchestral pop gems penned by the likes of Bacharach & David. Basically anything other than EDM, rap or country music that references pick-up trucks or religion. 

The best gigs she's attended are Burt Bacharach (Iveagh Gardens, Dublin 2019), Nina Simone (Bridgewater Hall, Manchester 1999), The Cure (Palacio de Deportes, Madrid 1992), Prince (NEC, Birmingham 1990) and Bjorn Again (Royal Palms, Grand Cayman 2005).
